PCAPI Championing Sustainability at the 31st AMEICC WG-CI Meeting

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Representing the country’s environmental management sector, the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PCAPI) actively participated in the 31st Meeting of the AMEICC Working Group on Chemical Industry (WG-CI), hosted by the Philippine Board of Investments (BOI) at the Diamond Hotel on August 27–28, 2026. PCAPI joined this pivotal regional platform following an invitation from the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK).

The PCAPI delegation was led by President Ms. Luzviminda A. Angeles, alongside Treasurer Engr. Norman Giovanni M. Guevarra and Adviser Engr. Gretchen Fontejon-Enarle, MSc.

Key leaders from the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PCAPI)—including President Ms. Luzviminda A. Angeles, Treasurer Engr. Norman Giovanni M. Guevarra, and Adviser Engr. Gretchen Fontejon-Enarle, MSc—joined Ms. Ma. Corazon Halili-Dichosa, Executive Director of the Board of Investments (BOI) Philippines, along with representatives from the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK) for a networking photo during a session break at the Diamond Hotel.

Strengthening Regional Cooperation for a Competitive & Sustainable Industry

Co-chaired by Ms. Ma. Corazon Halili-Dichosa (Executive Director, BOI Philippines) and Mr. Kikuo Take (Director for International Affairs, METI Japan), the meeting brought together key industry leaders and representatives from 11 ASEAN nations—Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Viet Nam. The conference served to drive strategic collaboration, regional integration, and global competitiveness within the chemical sector.

Key agenda highlights included:

  • Policy & Industry Updates: Presentation by BOI’s Geraldine Buela on recent regulatory and policy developments in the Philippine chemical industry, alongside national updates from participating ASEAN member states.
  • Circular Economy Initiatives: Deloitte Consulting presented ongoing studies on utilizing circular economy strategies to enhance ASEAN chemical industry competitiveness.
  • Research & Chemical Safety: Information sharing on microplastics research by the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) and updates on the ASEAN-Japan Chemical Safety Database (AJCSD) presented by NITE.

In her closing remarks, Executive Director Ma. Corazon Halili-Dichosa emphasized the immense value of knowledge-sharing between Japan and ASEAN member states. METI Representative Mr. Kikuo Take extended his gratitude to the Philippines for its leadership and co-chairmanship, expressing optimism for sustained regional cooperation.

Cultural Fellowship & Technical Engagement

Beyond the main sessions, the delegates engaged in meaningful networking opportunities:

  • Philippine Cultural Show & Welcome Dinner: Delegates gathered at the historic Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant in Intramuros for an evening of traditional performances, posing for memorable group photos alongside local folk dancers.
  • Technical Site Tour: Delegates participated in an educational site visit to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) complex in Taguig, observing local advancements in testing and research services.

PCAPI’s presence underscores its steadfast commitment to working alongside regional chemical and industrial bodies, fostering strong environmental governance, circular economy practices, and sustainable growth.

As part of the 31st AMEICC WG-CI Meeting, regional delegates participated in an educational site visit to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) complex in Bicutan, Taguig City. Hosted alongside DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) Director Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, the delegation explored local advancements in testing, material science, and R&D services supporting chemical safety and environmental sustainability.
